GAKO Livestock Farm Project

GAKO Livestock Farm Project

The Early 2015, APTC introduced a flagship project to increase quality meat production for local and export markets. This project was established to support the supply chain of meat to Rugari Meat Processing Industries and serve as a model farm for cattle fattening.

Currently, Gako farm is managed on a project based approach under incubation period. Upon successful implementation and scale up of activities, the project will mature to form an independent company under APTC. Management intends to specialize in cattle and goat fattening through rationing of animal feeds in order to monitor animal health and growth from Kenya and South Africa—saving the country substantial foreign exchange.

We are now thinking big, planning to start exporting to the region. Visionary leadership at home has nurtured good relations with central African countries and in the region, a potential export market for meat products. Moreover, availability of RwandAir flights to countries such as Congo Brazzaville creates an enabling environment for exports.

Objectives

» To exploit the full potential of Gako farm in order to ensure steady supply of live animals for slaughtering at Rugari abattoir

» Enhance organization and staff capacity for increased effectiveness and efficiency of Gako farm
