Cattle Livestock Project

Gako Livestock Farm

Advancing quality beef production through sustainable cattle fattening and breeding, reducing import dependency and strengthening local meat supply chains.

Gako Livestock Farm

Project Launch

In early 2015, APTC launched a flagship project aimed at boosting quality meat production for both local and export markets. This initiative was designed to strengthen the supply chain for Rugari Meat Processing Industries while serving as a model farm for cattle fattening.

Current Operations

Currently, Gako Farm operates under a project-based approach during its incubation period. Once successfully implemented and scaled, the project aims to evolve into an independent company under APTC. The farm focuses on cattle and goat fattening, utilizing feed rationing to monitor animal health and growth. This approach reduces reliance on imports from Kenya and South Africa, saving the country significant foreign exchange.

Future Vision

Looking ahead, we are expanding our vision to export meat products to the region. Strong leadership at home has fostered excellent relations with Central African countries, creating a promising export market. Additionally, the availability of RwandAir flights to destinations like Congo Brazzaville provides an enabling environment for international trade.

Objectives

To exploit the full potential of Gako farm in order to ensure stable supply of live animals for slaughtering at Rugari abattoir

Enhance organization and staff capacity for increased effectiveness and efficiency of Gako farm
